Meet our therapists

Paul Hughes

My name is Paul Hughes and I’m here to help you to achieve your goals. As you make your way through one of The Hypnotherapy Store’s packages you’re going to be hearing rather a lot of my voice.

It might therefore be helpful to know a little more about me as a person, as I help you through the process you’re about to begin.

When I launched my two hypnotherapy and psychotherapy websites I hired professionals to take photos of me. None of them really looked like me, however.

So here’s a selfie. It looks more like the real me, eye bags and all.

I’ve now reached my late 40s and live in Oxfordshire, England, with my wife, two daughters and two dogs.

I’m the founder of The Hypnotherapy Store and truly look forward to being with you as you make your way towards achieving whatever it is which brings you here.

You really can do it and I’m happy to be able to help.

Leaving university in 1993 I had no idea of what to do with my life. I eventually took a job as a care assistant and spent a couple of years working with alzheimers patients, the disabled and the mentally ill. It wasn’t the typical post-university period of travelling through Asia but it was certainly an education.

I then fell into teaching, for want of a better idea, and found that I loved working with young people. I became an Assistant Headteacher but the rigidity, the marking, the bureaucracy and the constant feeling of a lack of freedom drove me slowly mad.

By 2010 I had had enough of being a teacher and had also undergone a period of counselling for childhood issues caused by growing up with a mentally ill alcoholic. It was then that I had the idea of training to become a therapist myself.

Having also had a spot of hypnotherapy, for smoking cessation, I chose the hardest course which would leave me a UKCP registered hypnotherapist and psychotherapist. I passed with a distinction, after four years of work, and launched my practice in Oxford and Reading.

I worked endlessly hard on this and built one of Oxfordshire and Berkshire’s busiest practises. I also spent some years as a trainer of new therapists and trained established therapists on how to work with Asperger’s Syndrome / High Functioning Autism.

In 2019 I began my MA in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and am now a qualified Child and Adolescent Counsellor.

A few years ago I had the idea of building provision for people who didn’t have the time, the money or the inclination for a course of traditional face to face hypnotherapy or psychotherapy.

Unfortunately, being so busy, I didn’t have time to do anything with that idea.

Until Covid19 and all those weeks of lock down began in the Spring of 2020.

I spent those weeks and months giving life to my idea and here it is…
